Submission Guidelines

1. Papers submitted to Tribology and Lubricants (hereinafter referred to as “the Journal”), the journal published by the Korean Tribology Society (hereinafter, “the Society”), shall be subject to the provisions of this submission and application guidelines. As a rule, only members of the Society are eligible to have their papers published in the journal. In the case of co-authorship, at least one author must be a member. Exceptions are for the submission of the manuscripts in English.

2. The Journal contains theoretical and experimental papers on the research fields of interacting surfaces in relative motion, including but not limited to the following: friction and wear, fluid film lubrication, elastohydrodynamic lubrication, lubricant, macro- to nano-scale tribology, tribo-chemistry, surface properties and characterization, contact mechanics, magnetic recordings, tribological systems, seals, bearing design and technology, gears, metalworking, lubricants, and artificial joints. The papers will be interesting to academic, industrial, and government researchers and technologists working in various subjects, including the following: Aerospace, Agriculture and Forestry, Appliances, Automotive, Biomedical Devices, Industrial Engineering, Lubricants, Lubricant Additives, Magnetic Data Storage, Manufacturing, Marine, Materials, Micro/Nano-systems, Mining, Power Generation, Surface Engineering, and Testing and Analysis.

3. The submitted paper should be prepared in accordance with this guideline and not have been published in another journal. It should make a scholarly and technological contribution to the fields of tribology and demonstrate originality and reliability. Technological terms used in the paper should be in line with the terms in the “Equipment and Tribology Glossary” published by the Society.

4. The Journal requires gender innovation research methodology and gender analysis, which is a statistical analysis for gender innovation, for the safe development and safety analysis of all products and technologies. By applying analytical methods considering sex and gender factors from the basics to the entire process of applied research and development, the Society seeks to improve the quality of research and develop new knowledge, ideas, patents, and technologies. Ultimately, we will promote science and technology innovation through gender innovation research and improve the quality of life and social value. Thus, in the case of cell experiments, animal experiments, or clinical studies (all studies directed at humans), biological sex or socio-cultural gender is recognized as an influential factor in the outcome and the following should be included. If the study was done involving an exclusive population, for example, in only one sex, authors should justify why, except in obvious cases (e.g., prostate cancer).
1) Cell or animal experiment study
¨ç Describe the source, certification, and biological characteristics of the cell or animal.
¨è Study both sexes equally in target cells or animals, and describe the results of sex differences.
2) Clinical studies
¨ç In sex description, sex and gender should be distinguished and described correctly.
¨è Research subjects should include men and women, and the results should be compared and analyzed.
¨é Authors should define how they determined race or ethnicity and justify their relevance.

5. The Journal entries are published in pertinent categories, such as study (scientific, technological, practical), prospect, commentary, review, lecture, feature, policy, and other categories.

6. All authors who have submitted their papers for publication purposes should abide by the policies for research ethics of the Society. In the event these policies are violated, the editor-in-chief can decide to disapprove or withdraw the publication, and those in violation will be subject to disciplinary measures in accordance with the regulations. Moreover, if the submitted paper is a doctoral dissertation, this detail should be made clear.

7. All manuscripts shall be submitted via the Society’s online submission system (http://journal.tribology.kr). Authors are asked to provide general information necessary for the online selection process, such as their name(s) (main author, corresponding author, etc.) and contact address. At the time of initial submission, the original manuscript and author checklist (Society-assigned form) should be submitted as well. Should this process be unavailable, the authors are allowed to submit by e-mail or regular mail one original manuscript and three photocopies to the address of the Society.

8. The date of receipt of the manuscript is the date on which it reaches the Society. In the event the manuscript is returned to the author for corrections, additions, or other suggestions, the initial date of receipt is annulled if the revised manuscript is not received by the Society within three weeks from the date of delivery from the Society.

9. Submitted manuscripts will not be returned.

10. Manuscripts submitted to be published in the Journal will be subject to the specialists’ review (peer-review) process, and their publication will be determined by the opinions of the three-person review board appointed by the Editorial Board and the Society’s manuscript review policy. Authors should write a detailed Itemized Statement on Reflection of Reviewers’ Comments (Society-assigned form) regarding the statement on reflecting the opinions of the Reviewers and submit it along with the revised manuscript.

11. The selection of papers shall be made by the Editorial Board and the Reviewers in accordance with their operating regulations.

12. Authors are responsible for the contents of their paper.

13. The Society shall be the copyright owner of all published papers and other materials. The Society shall have the right to publicize the papers and other materials submitted in printed, online, and other forms.

14. The Journal applies the 'CC BY’(Attribution) license policy as Open Access (hereinafter referred to as “OA”) journal declaration and the Creative Commons License (hereinafter referred to as “CCL”) for the reuse of published articles. Accordingly, in the following cases, the author may reuse, transform and build upon all or part of the contents of articles and other contributions published in the Journal. However, the relevant works published in the Journal should be correctly cited as the original source and author. The OA journal declaration and the CCL will be applied from the articles published in the August 2019 issue of the Journal (Vol. 35, No. 4).
¨ç Authors can apply for patent application, utility model application, design right registration and trademark setting registration.
¨è Authors may reproduce and distribute all or part of the paper for personal use such as education or research.
¨é Authors may publish and distribute all or part of the contents of the paper (pre-print, post-print, final print) on the personal website, the website of their institutions and organizations, and the website of the organization that sponsored the research fund.

15. When the publication of the manuscript is confirmed, the responsible author (or corresponding author) should submit the Copyright Compliance and Use Agreement and the Research Ethics Compliance Pledge (Society-assigned forms). The authors of the published papers must pay the prescribed publication fee (including the review fee).
16. Authors are responsible for proofreading the galley.
